The Waukee Community School District Board of Directors is scheduled to meet at 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2026, in the Waukee District Office Board Room, 560 SE University Ave., Waukee.
Key Items on the Agenda
School Board Delegate
The Board is scheduled to select a Waukee Community School District delegate for the November 2026 Iowa Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly.
Homeless Liaison Designation
The agenda recommends approving Kandi Hensel, Director of Student Services, as the district's Area XI Homeless Liaison for the 2026–27 school year. The packet identifies the designation as required under Iowa Administrative Code Section 281, Chapter 33.3.3(7).
Staffing Additions
The Board is scheduled to consider FY26/27 positions that include:
- 10.0 FTE special education associates, with locations to be determined.
- 1.0 FTE classroom associate at Waterford Elementary.
- 1.0 FTE classroom associate at Brookview Elementary.
Policy and Governance
The Board is scheduled to consider the second reading of 16 policies and regulations, including several new provisions addressing disruptive behavior, technology, gifted education, special education, employee leave and student rights.
Student Discipline and Disruptive Behavior
New Policy 502.14, Disruptive Behavior, and two accompanying regulations establish procedures for removing students from classrooms following violent or nonviolent disruptions. The proposed framework addresses readmission to classrooms, repeated removals, alternative learning arrangements and protections for students with disabilities.
For students with IEPs who are removed for nonviolent disruptive behavior, proposed Regulation 502.14-R(2) calls for an IEP team meeting following removal. It also requires an IEP team meeting when a student is removed five or more times within 15 consecutive school days.
The policy package also updates Policy 502.1, Student Conduct — Discipline, and Policy 502.13, which addresses threats and incidents of violence.
Digital Instruction and One-to-One Devices
Proposed revisions to Policy 601.7, Technology and Instructional Materials, would limit digital instruction for students in transitional kindergarten through grade five to no more than 60 minutes per school day, subject to listed exceptions. Students in those grades would also not have access to or use digital devices during recess.
New Policy 601.7-E(1) establishes a technology-adoption checklist for one-to-one device programs. Before adopting or renewing such a program, the Board would consider instructional purpose, age appropriateness, content-filtering limitations and student-data practices.
Employee Leave
Revisions to Policy 404, Employee Leaves of Absence, include up to three days of paid physical-recovery leave for regular licensed classroom teachers injured because of a student's violent disruption of classroom instruction. Additional qualifying leave would be handled under applicable laws and policies.
Other Policies
The second-reading package also includes policies covering:
- Section 504 student and parental rights.
- Student guidance and counseling.
- The Extended Learning Program for talented and gifted students.
- Special education and related support services.
- Technology appropriate use.
Major Financial and Contract Items
$902,430.72 Playground Improvements Payment
The consent agenda includes Pay Application #1 for $902,430.72 for the Waukee CSD 2026 Playground Improvements Project. Bishop Engineering recommends payment to PlayPower LT.
The packet reports that playground removal and equipment installation, along with turf installation on the east and west soccer areas, had been completed at Maple Grove Elementary. At Waukee Elementary, playground equipment had been removed and reinstalled, while completion of the turf installation remained outstanding.
Technology Purchases and Services
The consent agenda includes several technology-related agreements and proposals:
- An Apple proposal totaling $61,795 for 100 iPads, 100 three-year AppleCare+ plans and 100 Logitech Rugged Combo 4 Touch keyboards.
- A Dell proposal totaling $41,460 associated with 20 Dell Pro Max Slim computers and related items.
- An Instructure order form totaling $6,000 for a Canvas Optimization Consultation Bundle.

Other Agreements
The consent agenda's contracts and agreements section also includes emergency communication services, preventative-maintenance arrangements for Won-Door FireGuard doors, a box-truck bid tab, an employee assistance program amendment and multiple independent-contractor agreements.
The packet includes preventative-maintenance documents listing $1,884 per year for six Won-Door FireGuard doors and $3,456 per year for 12 doors.
Student Programs and Activities
uVoice Partnership
The consent agenda includes documents for an expanded uVoice partnership with Community Youth Concepts. Northwest Marching Classic
Several proposed independent-contractor agreements cover adjudication services for the 2026 Northwest Marching Classic on September 12, 2026. The agreements generally provide $700 plus specified mileage allowances, with maximum payments ranging from $750 to $1,000 among the contracts included in the packet.
A separate proposed agreement with Tyler Shipe provides $4,000 for visual design services for the Northwest High School Royal Brigade from September 1 through October 1, 2026.
Field Trips
