The August 3, 2026 Board Work Session for the Colfax-Mingo Community School District is centered on governance, technology, student access, and career education rather than a lengthy routine business agenda. According to the available packet materials, the meeting consists of a board workshop followed by four action items.
The primary work session is an Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) workshop, indicating the board intends to spend significant time on governance, board development, or strategic discussion. Although supporting workshop materials are not included in the extracted packet, the placement of the workshop as the central agenda item suggests it is a major focus of the evening.
Board members are also scheduled to consider a technology contract with the Area Education Agency (AEA), adopt the district's 100 Series board policies following a second reading, review student activity passes, and consider a Work-Based Learning 28E agreement. These items have the greatest potential to affect district operations, students, and partnerships.
No supporting documents, financial exhibits, contracts, policy drafts, or staff reports accompany the extracted packet. As a result, the available evidence identifies the subjects before the board but does not provide proposed contract amounts, policy language, or implementation details.
Major Discussion and Action Items
IASB Board Workshop
The largest portion of the meeting is devoted to an IASB workshop during the scheduled work session. Iowa Association of School Boards workshops typically provide board development, governance education, strategic planning, or policy discussion. The available packet identifies the workshop but does not include presentation materials or an agenda for the session.
Because this is scheduled as the primary work session, community members should expect substantial discussion rather than immediate policy decisions on workshop topics unless they are separately listed as action items.
Technology Contract with AEA
The board is scheduled to consider a technology contract with the Area Education Agency as an action item.
The packet does not include the proposed agreement, pricing, contract term, or description of services. However, technology agreements with an AEA commonly involve instructional technology support, network services, cybersecurity assistance, software management, or educational technology resources.
Formal board action is expected because the item appears in the action section of the agenda.
Second Reading and Adoption of the 100 Series Policies
Board members are scheduled to conduct the second reading and adoption of the district's 100 Series policies.
The packet does not include the policy text, but the 100 Series generally governs board organization, governance, ethics, authority, meetings, and related operational responsibilities.
A second reading typically represents the final stage before adoption, indicating these governance policies have already undergone an earlier review and are now ready for board consideration.
Student Activity Passes
The board will consider student activity passes.
The extracted packet does not describe whether the proposal changes pricing, eligibility, admission policies, or distribution procedures. Because the item is listed for action, board approval may be required before implementation for the upcoming school year.
Students, families, athletic programs, and extracurricular participants could be affected depending on the final proposal.
Work-Based Learning 28E Agreement
The agenda includes consideration of a Work-Based Learning 28E agreement.
In Iowa, 28E agreements are formal cooperative agreements between governmental entities that allow organizations to jointly provide services or programs.
Although the partner organization and agreement terms are not included in the available packet, work-based learning agreements generally support career exploration, internships, employer partnerships, or other educational opportunities connecting students with workforce experiences.
Financial Matters
The available packet does not include budget documents, invoices, contracts, bid summaries, grant information, or financial exhibits.
While the Technology Contract with the AEA will likely involve district expenditures, no contract value, funding source, fiscal year allocation, or vendor pricing is provided in the accessible materials.
No additional purchases, transfers, reimbursements, tax matters, bond issues, or capital expenditures are identified in the extracted packet.
Policies, Ordinances, Resolutions, and Governance
The principal governance item is the second reading and proposed adoption of the district's 100 Series policies.
Because this is the second reading, the policies have already been introduced previously and are now positioned for possible final approval.
The packet does not identify specific policy revisions, additions, or deletions. Community members interested in governance changes may wish to review the adopted policy language after board action or request the policy documents from the district.
The IASB workshop also reflects an emphasis on board governance and professional development, although no workshop materials are included.
The meeting's primary presentation is the IASB workshop.
No superintendent report, administrative reports, enrollment update, academic presentation, facilities report, financial report, audit, committee report, or consultant memorandum appears within the extracted packet.
Likewise, no supporting documents accompany the agenda items, limiting the available public information about recommendations or staff analyses.
Personnel, Appointments, and Organizational Matters
The available agenda does not include personnel recommendations, employment contracts, resignations, retirements, appointments, recognitions, coaching assignments, committee appointments, or staffing actions.
No executive session or personnel-related action items are identified in the accessible packet.
Projects, Facilities, Infrastructure, and Operations
The Technology Contract with the AEA represents the primary operational item before the board.
Depending on the final agreement, the contract may affect district technology infrastructure or support services, although the packet does not specify the scope.
The Work-Based Learning 28E agreement may expand operational partnerships supporting career education and student workforce experiences.
No construction projects, transportation initiatives, building improvements, maintenance projects, safety upgrades, or facility renovations are described in the available materials.
The extracted packet does not identify any scheduled public hearings.
No public comment sessions, formal hearings, bid openings, zoning matters, surveys, or other public participation opportunities are described beyond attendance at the regular board meeting itself.
The meeting is scheduled for:
- Date: August 3, 2026
- Time: 6:00 PM
- Location: Colfax-Mingo Central Office, Board Room, 1000 N. Walnut Street, Colfax, Iowa.
Students may benefit from the proposed Work-Based Learning 28E agreement if it expands partnerships that provide career exploration or employment-related learning opportunities.
Families may be interested in the board's decision regarding student activity passes because any changes could affect access to school activities or related costs.
District employees may be affected by the technology contract if it changes technology services, technical support, or operational systems provided through the AEA.
Board policy adoption is important for all district stakeholders because the 100 Series establishes the framework for board governance and district oversight.
Residents and taxpayers may wish to follow both the technology contract and policy adoption because they influence district operations and governance even though detailed supporting documentation is not included in the packet.
